Styling a home with Indian antiques doesn’t mean something fancy. It just means adding an antique element to a corner of your home, and keeping it well!
Why use Indian antiques in modern decor?
There’s a certain magic that antiques bring into a space. It’s not just about their age or beauty—it’s about the way they ground a room with history, charm, and character. They remind us of times gone by. They help us contribute to the causes of circularity and sustainability – when you bring an antique home, you have saved it from being destroyed or used as firewood. And contrary to what people think, you don’t need a collector’s budget or a palatial home. Just a corner. And a little imagination.
Here are three corners I’ve styled using old Indian pieces—and each one tells a quiet story.
Styling with an Antique Bookshelf in a Sunlit Corner

One of the nicest things the builder of our apartment complex envisioned is these corner windows. I would have preferred larger frames, but I am not complaining. The extra light is perfect for a decor enthusiast like me.
I styled this light-filled corner with:
- An Andian antique Burma teak book shelf – the real star of this space
- An equally elegant old rosewood chair with cane weaving on the seat!
- A pretty mustard rug.
- A plant near the window – sometimes its a spider plant, other times it’s a hydrangea!

The result? A space that feels rooted and welcoming, with just the right dash of nostalgia
Styling with Antique Brass Milkman in the Dining Area

Where calm meets character. Yes, I need a calm, soothing feel in my dining area. The sage-greige half-painted wall does most of the calming.
While the whole space has a vintage-modern feel, the only really old thing here is the brass milk can holding the banana leaf arrangement. An Indian antique, and one that makes styling it a delight!
The painting is AI-generated, and is an ode to old Mangalore – especially the round marble-topped table featured in it, such a ubiquitous old Mangalore piece of furniture!
Styling an Antique Wall-mounted Shelf in The Passage Nook

An old and not so common antique wall mounted shelf. I have added glass so that this dark passage looks bigger. The shelf has 2 drawers and space to keep books so it is very functional!
I have placed a relatively new chest of drawers below it, and some knick knacks and plants to style it!

And so…
You don’t need a full room makeover to bring old-world charm into your home. Styling with Indian antiques should be lead by the heart.
Sometimes, all it takes is one well-placed piece.
