.  Belmont House is a traditional colonial home in Mangalore, with beautiful architecture.

Many  colonial homes in India are disappearing.  Belmont House still stands proud and regal, hugging an interesting history to her bosom.

A bit of history

It was built in1820 by Michael Thomas Harris, Collector of Canara District.

A bit of history

He was the son of Lord George Harris, who served in the British Raj and played a big role in defeating Tipu Sultan in1799.

The architecture of the house still remains unchanged!

The living room is decorated in a mixed style. Yet, because the architecture speaks so volubly, the colonial facet of this home shines through.

A well-appointed formal dining room with a chandelier that definitely steals the show!

The informal dining room has quaint French and English country kitchen vibes.

Pretty window curtains and bed linen, cupboards with unique Gothic symbols, antique beds and dressers

The bedrooms take you back in time.

Traditional Mangalore cooking vessels are displayed around the  kitchen area

The home has a large and beautiful garden. Mrs. Peres takes great pride in it and personally supervises its upkeep
