I received a brochure today inviting me to an art exhibition in my hometown Mangalore. The exhibition, currently on at the Orchid Art Gallery is all about the monsoons, and is aptly titled ‘Romance of the Monsoon’. I presume the work was all done in the last few months, while the monsoon was at its peak in Mangalore. It is amazing how many different interpretations of the theme were brought out, especially since all the artists live in the same city.

It was also quite encouraging to see my favorite artist Jeevan’s paintings. I like his style, and I am always interested in his work. I suppose that has something to do with the fact that I am the proud owner of a rather impressive oil canvas done by him.

Here are some of my other favorites from the catalog.

This one is done by an old school mate of mine, Sapna Noronha. It brings out the natural beauty of Mangalore in the monsoons pretty well.

The ‘Monsoon moment’ is my hands down favorite from the catalog. It will look great in any living room.

Check out this abstract by artist Vasant Rao.

And finally, here’s another one from Sapna Noronha. If I’m not mistaken it depicts The Jog Falls, a popular tourist destination in the South of India.

If you would like to purchase any of these paintings, I would be pleased to put you in touch with the owner of the gallery.
